Terpenes – A New Hypothesis in Cloud Formation

December 2011 – Animated Short

Commissioned Work:

I was hired to create a fun, interesting and helpful sequence where a complex scientific theory would be easily explained to a mass audience. I was given the scientific article and asked to rewrite the process to be understood in laymen terms, create original character designs that reflect the real-world molecular structure, draw the storyboards, generate an animatic and animate the final sequence.  Each stage of the process was reviewed and approved by the leading scientist, Dr. Russell Monson.

Description:

Featured in the documentary “Pine Trees, Terpenes & Clouds”, Dr. Russell Monson and his team from the University of Arizona share their hypothesis on Terpenes and their influence in seeding cloud formation. Funded by the National Science Foundation.
